It has been absolutely beautiful here in Vero Beach. We arrived last Friday and have been working hard getting our condo back into shape after having the floors tiled. It really looks so much better and we love the way it looks. No photos yet...having computer issues and actually, just got back on line. Looking forward to visiting Cocoa Beach with dear friends tomorrow. Hoping to get some photos uploaded while we are here, but...if not, then later on when I get back to my Mac back home!

The weather has been really great and so much appreciated. It won't last forever though...rain is expected and more chilly temps. Just loving this Indian Summer... Forgot to take photos of the last 3 Spirit Cards I made.... too much in a hurry to send them off, and too much going on still! Keeping up with "The Store" and trying to make a go of it. I put the gas fireplace on this morning to ge the chill out of the air... it doesn't take long..... happy days ahead.

Thought I'd post a few things, and decided to change my format. Seems like fun and something new and different. I have been very active helping my brother open a store.... filled with odds and ends and "eclectic junque!" I sorta dropped everything and helped to set up the store, so I haven't been home much...and, when I am, I catch up on everything (well, what I can) that I usually do at home, and before I know it, the day is done! I really don't think it is going to fly, as business is very slow. I have finished the alphabet atc swap, and am now involved in a round robin of "Spirit Cards", which I like very much. Eleven women make up the group, and each of us creates 3 cards for the others deck. Here are some that I made for my deck for starters.

Along with the cards is a journal to write process notes about creating the cards.

I finished it just a few hours before bringing it to Jasmine. I figure it isn't too shabby for a first try. Actually, 20 coats of varnish is way too much for me, so 8 would have to suffice. She did like it, and I am very very happy for that.

First thing this morning I brushed on another coat of poly on Jasmine's treasure chest, then went to a tag sale down the street. I picked up a few items and that made me happy. Then I traveled a half hour to get cat food at the vet, but they did not have any and were expecting a shipment later in the day....so back home. While at home, I checked out my e-mail, paid some bills, made a light lunch, brushed another coat of poly on Jasmine's treasure chest before leaving to go back to the vet's office to get the cat food, then traveled the opposite direction to pick up a few things at the store for future artworks. Back home, installed an update to my astrology program, found a movie to go to tonight with Bob, and am currently waiting for him to join me for dinner. Before going out to the movie, I will put another coat of poly on the chest.... and another when I return from the movies. Having never done any decoupage before, I am hoping that this will suffice, as I will bring Jasmine her birthday treasure chest tomorrow at noon. I am liking the way it looks so far.... I hope she likes it too. Will post a picture when it is all done. I hadn't realized the time that goes into making a decoupaged item!

It's great to wake up to the light of the sun.... a very busy day ahead. Workin on the treasure box for Jasmine... and it has to be finished by Friday. That is my first priority.... this is where I am so far.... it was raw wood when I began. I varnished the inside and it is tipped for "non'dripping" till dry.

first time in a long time

I haven't paid much attention to my blog for some time. I can't say if I have been scattered, or just overwhelmed with too many distractions, but I am thinking that now is a good time to get back to my blog. I am nearly finished with one of the projects that I had joined last September, and will be adding one or two more publications to complete the journey. I am behind in the art illustrations; however, I will catch up with them at one time or another, and add them, if I can when they are complete. I have not painted in a while but I have been making ATC's and playing around with collage. I am currently painting and decorating a small treasure chest for my Godchild, Jasmine, for her 8th birthday. I attended the Mineral and Gem Show a few days ago, and bought several strands of gemstone beads to place inside the treasure box, along with some smaller gemstones. I gave her my small collection of gemstones some time ago, and hope to continue her interest. I will also add a small bag of old buttons to her treasure chest booty. I am preparing some cards to play in a Round Robin, which will begin in September. "Spirit Cards" -- 3 x 5" with all of the backs the same design. Eleven players, three cards for each player to create original art.... using any type of medium. I am also looking for small wooden chairs or tables to clean, primer, and paint in a decorative manner. We'll see how that turns out. Our 3 vehicles got damaged by giant balls of hail along with our home. Our neighbors all have the same damage. It will take some time to get all repaired. On a lighter note, this is what our front yard looked like before the "microburst" (which I think was really another tornado).... a friend of ours had the flamingos placed in our yard for fun! We woke up to looking out on them one morning and laughed and laughed. We were "flocked".... they were there for several days before they were removed. Life is full of surprises!

I completed the last of Deb's Healing Garland this morning. It was a soothing task and gave me the opportunity to once again focus on Deb, who will be missed so much. I linked the latter 2 weeks into the previous two garlands to make it complete. It will hang in my studio, but I displayed it on the cactus in the sun porch, as my studio really needs a cleaning overhaul.

I have been working on a variety of art projects ad find I am distracted from loss somewhat. I have resumed writing and creating a bit of art for the Travelling Artists Guild, and that is time consuming yet healing. The healing garland project is going well, and I make one after retrieving the prompt from our group page each morning. That is also very healing. My commission is taking a bit of time, but will be a lovely piece of work when comleted. The sun is shining today, and life is good.

I am really busy with making art.... I am a bit behind, actually. I very much enjoy the Healing Garland project that our group is working on each day this month of May, for our dear friend, Deb Gilchrist, who passed away in March. One of our awesome group moderators, Gena, thought of this memorial for Deb.... members taking 2 days of the month each, and offering a prompt as a start to create art on a strip of paper, to create a healing garland. I look forward to this first thing in the morning, to start my day. It truly is healing and a great tribute to Deb. I haven't done much on my painting commission, as I found it hard to focus.... lots to do ..... will post some pictures of the garland pieces after 7 pieces at a time are completed...then will attach them to each other weekly.

I find myself thinking of Ned an awful lot. Last night, I had to write something about Ned. It doesn't make much sense, but I had to do something... a sort of "non-sensical" poem~a bit of rambling:

He was special, sweet as honey--wouldn't ya know
It wasn't his time to go - Oh No!
His name was Ned, and what a guy
Cute as a button, always "on the fly".
His faces many, quizzical to funny.

A picky eater, eating sparsely,

All lived together very well. Well, Ned was just a bit of a "swell".
Zach could tell you, that, Ned, at times,

Sadly, my first post this year is to talk about my grand daughter Krystal's dog. Ned, who was killed last night by a coyote. My grand daughter's mom was caring for Ned as Krystal was away, and took him out around 11 pm, along with her small chihuahua to piddle. As they all stood in the yard near the driveway, a coyote appeared and snatched Ned and ran away with him. Ned was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the sweetest, loving, dearest dog imaginable. He did not deserve to die like this. I am so very sad. I never thought that I would love a dog as much as I love Ned. Everyone loved Ned... he had an outrageous personality and loved his Krystal to the utmost. I will miss him dearly. RIP dear Ned Hox Allia

The Journey Begins

I placed my sundry belongings in the saddlebags and was about to mount Freedom, when I stopped dead in my tracks. How could I possibly have forgotten that I needed to leave my doll with the Guildmistress and to bid her farewell. I took a deep breath and assured Freedom that I would soon return. I quickly ran back towards my room to seek the Guildmistress and to retrieve my doll--when lo and behold, I ran into the Guildmistress rounding the corridor turn. "It's all right", I heard a voice speak, recognizing it as belonging to her. "I am aware of all comings and goings in the castle. You moved a little too fast for me to intercept your leaving, and I am happy to see you have returned. I am also aware of your allegiance to the Great Spirit and Council. I understand that obedience and loyalty are honorable traits; however, you must know how to use your own judgement, follow your own instincts, and use your own power." As she spoke, I could see that she was holding something in her hands. It was my doll. "I found your doll in your room, lying on your bed. Surely you must have been extremely preoccupied not to have taken her with you." I looked at my doll, and I felt sad. "No matter, all is well," she said. "Let this be a lesson for you. Using your critical thinking skills and placing allegiance to yourself is first and foremost, regardless of any authority. Stand here with me for a moment" she said, as she held my hand in hers. "I bid you an eventful and safe journey. If you are ever in need of assistance, know that you can always return to the Guild or get word to me at any time if you need my council. I will care for your doll, placing her alongside her sisters, keeping her safe." With that said, she gave me her blessing and bid me safe journey. I was relieved as I made my way back to the courtyard and to Freedom.
No sound other than a soft "whinny" from this most incredibly beautiful horse imaginable was heard. He nuzzled me affectionately, as I stood near him, whispering in his ear that we would be as one on our journey together. I mounted Freedom, settling into the soft leather saddle before touching his thick wavy mane. At the start, I felt that Freedom had a kind disposition and that he was charismatic and light on his feet. His head was finely chiseled made of solid bone and dynamic vision. Soon my internal compass guided me southward from the mountains and celestial skies of High Heaven, where the Guild castle was located. The river, Bevaqua, lay below, leading to Runehaven at the Place of Power.
Slowly we traveled, enjoying the flora and fauna along the way. Crossing the mountains presented no problems. The river lines were like tabs, indented every so often in a curvilinear manner. Freedom found it easily managed as we meandered downward. He appeared to be very athletic-- his movement being powerful and elegant.
Water was plentiful, and we drank whenever thirst demanded. Trees laden with fruits and berries sustained us along the way. Beautiful birds were in abundance...some cranes and flamingoes were wading in the water; parrots were perched in their nests, others soaring in the sky. Some birds I recognized. Strange, I thought, as birds are of the Spirit, and I thought I knew all birds. Their sounds are a part of my forever knowledge, but some were new to me. Perhaps this is part of my learning?
There were many nights spent beneath the stars, and I could see the constellations above, using them to guide us to our destination. Measures of velvet black sky followed the twilight of softened light before the heavy darkness of nightfall. The woods were scented with the whisper of pine and wild flowers. Soft moss cushioned our resting places, and each morning I awoke to hundreds of butterflies sailing through the air into the sky overhead. As I lay there, on the earth, I felt so strange. A grounding I never felt before (as I am a creature of the air~space~heavens~ and used to the ether. This "grounding" was carrying me--holding me--solid beneath my earthly body of flesh and bone. So very different than what I was used to. New,and accepted.
A new mind set enveloped me as I traveled with Freedom. I gave much thought to my impulsive departure from the guild, and my obedient allegiance to the Great Spirit and Council. Was this a test of sorts? Was I supposed to, as a human, be expected to follow allegiance or to act independently? Had I lost my spirituality by not following the directions given to me by the Gryphon--or did my earthly-ness fill me with an oppositional quality that spurred these actions at the final moment? Food for thought and grist for the mill. Perhaps the Place of Power would clarify some of these questions?

The Dream

I found myself in the great void, a thin veil, soft as silk, enveloped the dreamtime. An essence of Jasmine filled my nostrils, creating a feeling of free-floating faintness. Suddenly, I became aware of a denser atmosphere as I neared the earth plane. Hearing what sounded like a great rush of wind, in a half-turn, I found myself looking at the frontal figure of a Chryslon Gryphon, who has the body of a lion and the head and forefeet of an eagle. Traversing the void is a natural ability of gryphons, who act as powerful guardians of the Higher Spirits. I welcomed this great gryphon and felt honored in its presence--as gryphons work for the Great Spirit and the Council, delivering their messages and carrying out their orders.
The gryphon spoke to me telepathically, communicating the knowledge of my impending journey granted to me by the elder Light Beings to investigate "all that is" as part of the round. He expressed their wishes that I take leave of the Guild Castle to begin my journey immediately upon its leave. The gryphon was expressly sent to deliver Blessings, along with several gifts: A precious miniscule bird having bodacious colors was placed on the top of my head. The gryphon reported that one of the bird's supernatural abilities is to "mesmorize" with its song, any creature or being--human or otherwise. I was to understand it would be a great advantage to have this member of the aviary family to accompany me on my journey. Its added attraction is its ability to appear as a tattoo on my shoulder and to come forth when needed, to perform its magic (just like my wings). A bag made of soft golden mesh containing clothing and soft leather boots was placed on the bed. The gryphon told me that a stallion, as dark as the night sky, would be waiting for me outside of the south door of the castle in the courtyard. I thanked the gryphon for being the messenger and gift-bearer then bid it farewell. Before leaving, the gryphon told me a valuable item would be mine to receive sometime during my journey. I would know it was near upon hearing the ring of a bell. In the blink of the eye, the magnificent gryphon vanished. I took this moment to thank the Great Spirit and Council for holding me in such high regard, knowing they would receive my thanks as soon as my thought was formed.
I awoke in a heartbeat from the dream, remembering the wish of the Great Spirit and Council--that I depart as soon as possible. I readied myself, my wings, and my bird, Precious (who was now contained as part of my skin), and found my way to the outer courtyard at the south gate, where my horse awaited. As soon as I saw him, I knew his name...Freedom! The moon was new (in Sagittarius) and a perfect time to begin my journey.

Sequel to meeting the Guildmistress

As I descended the spiral staircase, I envisioned what my room would look like. I could see, in my mind's eye, a place that mimicked the night sky: black satin fabric covering walls in a 360 degree space, with pinpoints of crystal lights and a touch of star- sparkle peeking through, forming familiar constellations; a bed with a pale cerulean blue coverlet appeared to be the perfect size for nestling my tired self. Now, stepping down the final stair, walking along the corridor, my hand touched the wall, hitting the tapestry of the unicorn, which instantaneously opened into a room whose image I had held in my 3rd eye just moments ago. Smiling, I entered, moving towards the bed to retire for the evening. As I lay in the comfort of this safe space, I began to drift into a sleep, watching as the stereographic panorama of the entire vista changed from celestial hemisphere to celestial hemisphere......... and began to dream.

Meeting the Guildmistress

I walked across the hall to meet other artists gathered in front of the fireplace, hugging each one as they stated their names. The fire was crackling, flames dancing, and the exchange of conversation stimulating. I decided to find a room to contemplate the journey thus far, bidding newly found friends a good night. As I gazed around the room, a door caught my eye. It was exquisite in decor, embellished with cords of braided tri-colored copper metal hammered into thick planks of grained wood. Gemstones of amethyst, moonstone, ruby, and lapis lazuli were laid into patterns of curvilinear mazes opening into a rectangular center filled with pieces of pink quartz. This door opened upon my approach, and I entered, passing into a winding corridor softly lit from a luminescent quality emitted from the stone . Heavy tapestries illustrated with fabulous fantasy animals decorate the walls, and eventually, I came to an elaborately carved wood stairway spiraling upward. As I strained my eyes to see where it ended, I began the climb and reached the top, stepping onto an oval platform with an arched entryway. As I entered the room, a huge glass dome surrounded me. The entire vista was open to the night sky - constellations visible at every turn. The moon shone brightly, nearing its fullness, filling me with peace and contentment. I was elated, as I missed the open space and comfort of Sirius, Orion, the Pleiades, Cassiopeia, Pegasus, Andromeda, Cygnus, and Perseus. A slight noise startled me, as I thought I was alone. Even though the dome was starlit and moonlit, I did not notice the presence of anyone. I turned, looking into a face that became visible by the gentle soft haze of the lit orbs in the sky. It was a face filled with wisdom, kindness, and knowing. In the stillness a voice sounded, "I am the Guildmistress. I visit the observatory nightly before retiring for the night. I am happy to see that you have found this, the highest point in the Guild structure, as it is one of my favorite places. You are Lavenda Kakabell, are you not? You bear a remarkable resemblance to one of your ancient ancestors, Kallikrates, keeper of the universal spheres. I welcome you to the Guild. Feel free to wander about. I am sure you will find your niche to rest until it is time to take your leave." With this said, she gave me a hug. I thanked her before glancing around the rotunda, taking in the view of the heavens before exiting. We exchanged smiles as I passed her on my way to the top of the spiral staircase, on my way to find a place to light.

Call to the Guild

I felt the call to seek the Guild, knowing somehow, that for me, it was to be found under the brightest star in the Universe, the Sun. I made my way from dense indigo into the pre-dawn sky, an entirely new experience for me, prepared to experience the shift from night to day. I entered this new sky space from the East, with a bit of trepidation, eagerness, and excitement, but with a strong sense of being one with Spirit. There it was, a magnificent building, towering high above the earth. An aura of the sacred radiated from its walls, and the winds of the East blew gently around its perimeter whispering the hope of truth and a new beginning. I knew neither judgement nor blame must ever make an appearance in any way, shape, or form in this monumental abode. The atmosphere was filled with varied hues of yellow, subtle to rich, as the Sun rose from the forever space. An eagle soared nearby, sounding a "caw", a bond made eons ago. As I descended, the doorway of the East was before me. Ornately carved in ancient markings, images from cultures long gone were magnificently displayed. Although there was no handle, the door opened as I touched it, slowly moving, due to its immense size and weight. I followed a cloistered walkway that had sconces mounted on the interior walls cradling softly glowing candles, which lit my way. After a few steps, I approached a wall and another door, decorated with a mandala set with gemstones in its very center, stopping me in my tracks. This door was not as large nor as heavy as the door to the East, and it opened to reveal a large room with a fire burning in the hearth, warming a number of figures who were exchanging pleasantries as I entered. I thought, "Kindred Spirits".

Introduction to Lavenda Kakabell

Being an angel of the moon, living among the stars and constellations, I continuously wander the heavens. I - Lavenda Kakabell - a being of light energy, now claim the right offered to me by elder Light Beings, to transform into an earthly being, so that I may experience life on the earthly plane. My name -- Lavenda -- given to me by the universal Spirit, indicative of the essence of lavender, and the color purple, symbolizing royalty, spirituality, and the 6th chakra. Kakabell: kaka, speaking to the sound of birds; bell, calling forth tonal vibrations that reside in one's being, along with that of being warned to alertness. My travel case is wicker, allowing air, sound, scents, and energy to flow in, out, around, and through it. The cover is embellished with the crescent moon symbolizing the phases that bring about change. Buttons are scattered around the moon, some flat and some round, symbolizing the planets that inhabit the celestial heavens. As a light being, I have the ability to merge into alternate dimensions, and have recently felt the call to traverse the earthen plane. I am in tune with the moon and the stars and the heavenly constellations; however, I believe I need to spend time on the Earth in order to complete my understanding of "all that is" as part of the "round". Therefore, I follow the pulse of energy that calls to me for a purpose yet to be revealed, an opportunity offered to me by the Others, who delight in expansion and feeling experience. I am composed of a material which is as soft as the clouds, covered with netting and tiny crystal beads that catch the irridescent colors of the prisms of light, reflected from the moon and the stars. My hair, which was the color lavender, has changed to red for this journey, the color of the life force, and is flecked with the sparkle of stardust. I wear a glittering sphere around my neck, which contains magical properties of the 4 elements. My wings made of the feathers of birds that no longer exist, meld into my back when needed, appearing as tattoos. My eyes are surrounded by an ancient metal that empowers me to reflect to others what is necessary.

Paper, pencils, coloring books, crayons, scissors, glue, movie magazines/movie star scrapbooks -- All remembered from my childhood, bringing me much happiness and joy. Art in grade school, junior and senior high school... so very important to my self-esteem and development as an artist. Sixteen years old and finding a job working for a printer: typesetting and paste-up artist... more cutting, pasting and design. Marriage, children, a variety of jobs, metaphysical
studies, dream group, therapy, preceding my path to individuation -- College: psychology, painting, drawing,three dimensional art, materials and techniques, clay sculpting, internships... all new experiences that opened up expression of the self. Art Therapy found after so many
years, which I pursued energetically to earn a degree, with hope that I could assist other people to express themselves in a healing fashion -- followed by teaching, then private practice. Portraits and collage are my favored subjects; collage and mixed media my favorite way to express my style. Astrology, tarot, button collecting, tap dancing, antiques and old "stuff" make up my other interests that poke my imagination. I retired two years ago and keep busy making

The suitcase is a wicker picnic basket that will hold the articles that will be part of the year long journey. I am very pleased to be a part of a new group offered by Susan Letham, an English artist who lives in the north of Germany. She has designed a year's worth of Imagi-Nation activities for artists, which will begin in October. I (and many other artists who have joined this Traveling Artists' Guild) are excited and busy gathering materials and making their "boxes" to place the pieces of art and writings and other items made and/or collected on this journey. It will be a fantastic experience, I am sure of it.

What a surprise! My husband, Bob, agreed to visit the gallery with me and helped to hang paintings. He set a time limit (2 hours) before leaving, and did a great job. The reward was a "lestina" pizza for lunch at Bertucci's. We both had a good time, and it felt good to help out. The gallery opening is going to be delayed due to more work needed to be completed such as lighting. It certainly will be worth the wait.

Spent the day from 9 am to 4:30 pm hanging pictures in Gallery 131 and still not finished. Will return tomorrow to complete hanging all of the works with other help. I learned a lot today about measuring and the correct way to hang artworks. The opening will be delayed, as more work needs to be done in the gallery.

Brought the remainder of my 6 paintings to the new Gallery and attended a meeting that was approximately 2 hours of hashing over questions regarding hanging, volunteering, etc. It is looking good. I volunteered to help hand the initial works of all artists (I think there are around 35 or so) that have been accepted to be members. The hanging of all the works will fill the entire wall space in several rooms, and we will work on this all day, at least 8 hours, I am told. Gallery sitting is mandatory, and an extra 4 hours in September will be required, other than the gallery hanging hours. I have never hung an art show previously, so I am interested in learning. I have a few paintings that I want to completed as well within the next few weeks, so I have a full plate ahead of me including my other endeavors. It is exciting to be a part of this art community!

Today I finished working in one of the wrecked journals to complete the series with one of my art groups, and another round robin altered art book was delivered while we were eating lunch!
I so enjoyed working on the book last night and this morning.... I had so much energy, I weeded the entire length of the fence in the back yard during the mid day sun.... very unusual for me.
The shower felt great. We are off to Easthampton to the Friday Artwalk this evening. Time to get some more energy and inspiration for creating more artwork.

My granddaughter is getting married this Sunday, August 15th, at the Liberty Hotel in Boston, MA. I am soooo excited! We will leave home early Sunday morning to partake in the fun and pictures before the ceremony. Looking forward to a wonderful weekend.

These prayer pillows were made for the family of Johnny Sileno. He died a day-after his 6th birthday after a heroic journey struggling with anaplastic ependymoma. (cancer of the brain). My friend, Jan, is a good friend of Johnny's grandmother, Kathy, and has asked for prayer pillows to be sent to Johnny's family to help ease their grief. If you feel so inclined to make a prayer pillow, or pillows, you can send them to John and Jennine Sileno, 15 Disano Dr., Newburgh, NY 12550. I am sure they will be much appreciated. Prayer pillows are 3" x 3" and embellished with beads, lace, ribbon, and/or small trinkets. A printed fabric with Johnny's favorite themes; fireman, water sports, boating, kindergarten symbols, and/or his favorite color blue! The real treasure is the "prayer" that you write on a piece of paper and insert in the pillow before you close the last seam. The prayer is personal for Johnny and his Family and Friends. It does not take long to make one; they are quite small and would mean a lot.

I am also thinking about making a button charm string for Krystal of all "anchors", as she is using the anchor as her wedding theme. (She's a "Gloucester Girl"!

I am still working on the felted dinosaur for my granddaughter, Krystal's wedding. It is to sit on one side of an anchor alongside her guest book. A kitten is yet to be created. Will post photos when the dinosaur is completed. I have been stabbing away for hours at a time to form the piece, which is 13" tall!

Here are some button pins I made the other day. I was invited to lunch by a dear friend, Linda Jo, and spent several hours chatting and having fun with old friends from high school. I brought the button pins in a box, and had the 3 birthday gals choose a button pin, then invited the un-birthday gals to choose a button pin for themselves as well. What a wonderful time it was.

Busy creating a program on wood buttons for the button club meeting. Will preview it at the July meeting for errors, etc. then on to "tweaking" as necessary, to present at the MA State Button Meeting in September. I am using the Keynote Program on my Mac, and although it is time consuming learning, it is pleasurable as well. A good way to learn both the Keynote Program and the wood button classifications! Above is my practice card for classification.... very messy, but it serves the purpose. I gathered many more wood buttons to use as examples of the classifications. It's lookin good so far!

This is my first attempt at making a felted wool animal. My granddaughter must have liked it because she asked me to make her a felted wool dinosaur and a felted wool cat to place alongside her guest book at her wedding! I didn't use any kind of picture or pattern making the bunny, but I definitely am going to use pictures of a dinosaur and one of a cat to make her what she wants. Wedding is August 15, so I have lots of time (I think).

Water Theme Prevails

Guess that the element of water is very strong, as I continued to create 2 pages in the 2nd altered RR book using the theme of water. This time, I used wavy corrugated cardboard to print on both pages, then tore paper with fish images, completing images of fish not pictured 100%. I then used a rubber stamp to include a mermaid (bottom right), waves as a top border, then added my own art over the entire 2 pages--seaweed with marker, collage of shell and starfish, some of my doodles, and a poem. I forgot to photograph the bookmark sign in art.....

My brother asked me to paint these 2 geese that were in his yard... they were all chipped and the cement is broken off in many areas. I don't usually do this kind of stuff, but I did the best I could. I would have taken more time to shade the feathers on the body, but think it would have taken a lot of time (which I did not want to invest) as the cement was sucking up the paint. He was happy with the result though.

I posted this photo of my husband, Bob and me, on my facebook profile and it got a huge response. It is at least from 35 years ago...... That is the Chevy, Camaro Z28 that he bought me for traveling to UMass when I did my grad studies. We later sold it to buy a station wagon because he started his home improvement business. What a let down for me. No more high fives and toots while passing other cool rides on the road!

Round Robin Altered Book Swap Page

Here is the artwork I created in the first round robin altered book swap page. I used the original image of the figure, leaving it untouched on the page. I painted around it and the remainder of the pages with white paint. After the paint dried, I used water color sticks to create the environment. I cut shells from magazines, gluing them on the page, placing some glitz on as well. I like using the Neocolor, as it lends itself to expression!

Perfect Day

I had a great day today. Lolled around the house most of the day and played on FaceBook. My boys visited in the afternoon and we all sat down to eat dinner (that my son, Beau, made). Buddy brought the lilacs. Here is a photo of the Robin's nest under the light on the corner of the deck. The 2 babies are pretty big right now and will probably fly out of their nest by next week.

My little friend, Ella, stayed overnight and painted the next morning. She is quite a little artist, and painted so beautifully, moving her entire body in great gestures as she painted. I could see that she thoroughly enjoyed her painting. It was a joy to watch her.

New Resident

Had to share a photo my husband, Bob, took of the bird nest made in the light fixture above our sliding glass door of the deck. She took residence at the end of March, and she has been minding her nest. The nest is plainly visible from our kitchen window and we can watch her sitting on her nest. I am sure we will be blessed with seeing her eggs hatch. Bob turned off the light so that she will not be disturbed and so that no harm will come to her and her nest.

Today I went to the MSBS Button meeting and found some buttons in the "poke box". Most of them were wooden buttons, and others miscellaneous. I found two fabric buttons, one a really nice fabric button, known as a "passementerie" button.... I love these handmade older buttons.

These are photos of a wall mural that I began when we were in FL in January through March of this year. It is located in the small dining room area of our condo. The first picture is of the wall prep, then sketched and painted in somewhat, then worked throughout. It continues to be a work in progress, with at least 10 more hours of work, or maybe 15 more hours until completion.

We arrived at around 2:15 am this morning in the pouring rain, driving straight through from Myrtle Beach, where we spent 2 nights with a dear friend's mom after leaving Vero Beach, FL. I have lots of pictures and good memories from our first time spent away from home for such a long time. I feel good to be back and look forward to getting back "in the groove"! As soon as I catch up a bit, I will post some photos. Hello everyone!

Last day home

We are leaving early tomorrow morning for Florida, stopping to visit friends along the way in Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, S.C. I won't have my MAC and will miss it terribly, but we will have the laptop, so that I can retrieve my e-mail. I am very excited as we are finally off and nearly running! I will miss all of my cyber friends in the meantime. Back in March or April -- we'll play it "by ear"! (Photo by Sandrine taken at Central Park in NYC in October! She is an excellent photographer).

I thought I was all done blogging for a while; however, I received these lovely handmade pincushions as part of a Swap Bot exchange and want to share them. I was so surprised to receive them in the mail today, and just in time, as I went to the post office today with our "mail forward" paperwork changing our address to the Florida address until April. It was on dear Cyn's blog that I saw her listing for this swap, and thought it would be an easy swap to do before leaving. I am so happy I joined. And, the date of departure has been announced by "the Bob".... we are leaving early Sunday morning (3 am).... Lots of things to get into that Jeep! Thank you Michele for the lovely pincushions. I will make good use of them.

Birthday Celebration

Just had to post these before all is said and done for a while. Two of my sons spent New Year's Eve with us and we had such a great night. My son Bud brought 2 huge lobsters to eat and I was amazed at their size. He also brought over 2 bottles of home-made wine as a gift from a co-worker. Needless to say, all of the lobster and a bottle of wine was long gone before dinner was done. I didn't make it to ring in the New Year, as the wine did me in and off to bed I went at 9:30. My husband wasn't lonesome though, because Buddy stayed to keep him company, which made me very happy. Beau left early as he had a date with his girl. We always celebrate my birthday on New Year's Eve, although it is on New Year's Day. I thought the gift my son Beau gave to me was quite different, so here it is. It is like a hologram, picturing the sign of Capricorn, half goat, half mermaid, along with the constellation of Capricorn inside the object. I love the card too. I am off to a brand new year of love and adventure.

Happy New Year 2010. We will be leaving for Florida in a week or so, and I will not be posting as usual, at least not any photos. Will touch base every now and then from Vero Beach after leaving. We have some stops to make on the way to visit friends, no rush in traveling. Myrtle Beach then Hilton Head, then on to Vero Beach. It's an adventure!!!
